What is an Athens Account?
Athens is a system widely used by UK Higher Education institutions to provide convenient username and password access to most of the Learning Resources Centre’s (LRC) online resources, such as electronic journals and online databases, from wherever they have chosen to study.
How do I get an Athens Account?
Email your name, student ID number and course details to: athens@trinity-cm.ac.uk. An Athens Account will be sent back to you, providing you can be verified as a current student at the University.
How do I use my Athens Account?
There are two ways to use your Athens Account. You can either go directly to the resource you wish to access via the LRC web site or LRC BlackBoard page and then type in your Athens username and password when prompted, or you can log in to My Athens at http://auth.athensams.net/my/. If you log in to My Athens, you will see a list of all the resources you are entitled to access with your Athens Account. My Athens also allows you to change your Athens password, view your account details and expiry date and access online help.
Access on campus
You will find that some LRC resources do not require an Athens Account on Trinity University College campus. This is because some resources are set up to automatically recognise the IP addresses of University computers. If you wish to access these resources off campus, you will always be asked for your Athens Account information. You may find that a small number of resources are available for use on University campus only.
What if another login and password is required?
The LRC subscribe to a few smaller resources that will not accept an Athens Account, and require a different login and password. Where this is the case, the username and password can be obtained from the Information Point in the Library.
Getting help and advice
If you have difficulty using any of the Athens resources, please email athens@trinity-cm.ac.uk with the name of the resource and a description of the problems you are having.
For subject specialist help please contact your Learning Resources Adviser
Your Athens Account will automatically expire when your LRC membership does.
